Meta is reportedly developing new mixed reality (MR) glasses, aiming for a launch by the end of 2026. Codenamed “Puffin,” these glasses are expected to be lightweight, possibly around 110 grams, resembling thick eyeglasses. Instead of physical controllers, they might use eye and hand tracking for interaction.

The device is expected to run on Meta’s HorizonOS, similar to the Quest headsets, but likely focusing more on productivity and entertainment rather than gaming. This new direction suggests Meta may have cancelled previous plans for different Quest 4 models and another high-end headset.

Meanwhile, Apple is also working on its own augmented reality (AR) glasses, reportedly pushing for an earlier market release than Meta. Apple’s goal is lightweight, all-day wearability, though technical hurdles remain in fitting advanced technology into a slim design. Both tech giants are investing heavily in MR and AR as future computing platforms.
